Rittich shines in Flames’ home opener, first win of the season

David Rittich snagged his second career shutout in the Calgary Flames’ home opener on Oct. 5 against the Vancouver Canucks.

The 3-0 win over the Canucks also marked the Flames’ first regular season win in their 2019-20 campaign. The team lost their season opener 5-3 to the Colorado Avalanche.

The Flames’ goaltender made 34 saves and was a force to reckoned with Saturday night completely shutting down the Canucks’ top line and the rest of the team. The Canucks are now 0-2-0 early on in their season.

In 120 minutes of play (two game) this season, Rittich has 65 shots against and only 4 goals against. Rittich’s GAA is 2.02 and his SV% is .938.

The Flames’ top line heavily-produced, each netting the three goals. Elias Lindholm opened the scoring in the first period and Sean Monahan followed suit in the second period. Johnny Gaudreau was able to secure the lead late in the third with an empty-net goal.

Next, the Flames host the Los Angeles Kings Oct. 8.
