On trade deadline with under 30 minutes left, the Calgary Flames finally made a deal with the Los Angeles Kings — who wasn’t really on the Flames’ radar.
The deal involves Oscar Fantenberg coming to Calgary and a conditional 4th round pick in 2020.
Born: October 7, 1991
Birthplace: Ljunby, SWE
Fantenberg has played 73 NHL games in his career. He has 4 goals, 8 assists and 12 points in his career starting with 27 games in the 2017-2018 season and 46 games this current season.
This year, Fantenberg has 2 goals and 1 assist for a total of 3 points. His current +/- is -2.
The left-handed defencemen is averaging 16:03 minutes per game with the Kings. The 27-year-old has 65 blocked shots and 72 hits this season.
Many Flames fans on social media, expressed that they were looking to boost their roster after some big trades from other league contenders. Earlier on deadline day, the Winnipeg Jets acquired Kevin Hayes from the New York Rangers. Ex-Ranger, Mats Zuccarello was also recently traded to the Dallas Stars.
Division-rival, San Jose Sharks, who are nipping at Calgary’s heels, also acquired Gustav Nyquist, from the Detroit Red Wings.
It is apparent that the Flames were careful about this deadline and were only looking to make trades if the price was right — and apparently, when it came down to the wire, the Flames ended up deciding to not make any large moves before the deadline.
